Rwenjeru campsite is a community based project that seeks to take advantage of the tourism attractions already prevalent in the neighboring Lake Mburo conservation park. Through this project, the tourism sector hopes to promote economic, cultural and environmental conservation.
The camp is located in Biharwe Sub County - Mbarara district, only 3km off the Masaka-Mbarara high way, it is just 14km outside the main busy town and business centre of Mbarara in western Uganda. The campsite covers and stretches on a 270 acre piece of land comprising of valleys and raised lands.
Possible activities to be carried out on this site
- Eco-tourism is best experienced here with the surrounding environment comprising of natural trees and shrubs which form natural canopies giving a unique natural shade housing so many birds.

- Events and conferences
- Recreational grounds are also available
- And so many other activities as and according to prospective investment proposals
The Rwenjeru community project is working to sensitize the locals on the benefits of environmental conservation and changing their perceptions generally by showing them how they can benefit from tourism activities like starting up cultural villages in which tourists can be accommodated thus earning from such.
This campsite is yet to realize its full potential in attracting both local and foreign tourists. To set running, the project requires facilities such as tents, sleeping bags, camping chairs, kitchen ware and dining facilities, art & crafts� shop, gas cooker, solar system and an operational vehicle.
