Berlin – Germany, after being chosen as the Number 1 destination for the year 2012 by Lonely Planet, it’s no surprise that the Pearl of Africa also swept yet another global recognition as the 3rd Best Exhibitor out of 180 countries in the recent concluded ITB-Berlin Exhibition in Germany.
Led by the Uganda Tourism Board, a professional delegation of over ten tour and travel operator companies from Uganda who attended the exhibition were indeed overwhelmed by the number of visitor turn up at the stall of the land gifted by nature. Showcasing the rich deep cultural roots, nature at its peak, the pristine wildlife and the greatly desired hospitable country of all were at the epitome of the exhibition.
Uganda has been identified as the most desirable destination for this year, in addition to the celebrations of the Golden Jubilee (50 years of independence) a minimum of 1.5 million visitors are expected to come. This is by no means a clear indication of another revamp in the tourism sector – the second largest sector after agriculture.
The Uganda Tourism Board has been attending several exhibitions abroad for the past decade creating awareness and polishing the image of the country that has always had plenty to present on the international tour and travel market. With over 1000 bird species including the spectacular Shoebill, 11 national parks and several game reserves, the unspoiled nature NOT forgetting the jovial mountain gorillas swiveling in Bwindi Impenetrable and Mgahinga national parks, and an enormously growing hotel industry, the tourism sector has and will always welcome all visitors, tourists and businessmen to come and witness.
